Toastmaster of the Evening Kay T introduce the meeting theme “Recover”, the energy in the room was aimed not only at shaking off and recovering from the slacking off of Golden Week, but also transformed into an even more powerful vibe… so we did! 🚀
1. Table Topics: Navigating the Rollercoaster of Emotions ⚖️🧠
Table Topics Master Daseul Moon challenged our speakers to explore the complex landscape of human emotions through a series of impromptu questions.
- Noritama shared what makes him happy, revealing that nothing beats the sheer joy of checking his smartphone baseball app and seeing his beloved, bottom-ranked Chiba Lotte Marines clinch a rare victory. ⚾️
- Rintaro explained what he fears about in a hilariously dramatic story about a midnight trash-can battle with a cockroach, forcing him to buy out the supermarket’s insect traps the very next day. 🪳
- Mat revealed what reminds him of childhood, describing a Golden Week golf competition in the pouring rain that made him feel like a carefree kid again—even though the water-logged fun cost him a 100,000 yen iPhone repair scare! 🏌️♂️🌧️
- Taka discussed what makes him offset, candidly reflecting on the unsettling mental gap and emotional adjustment needed as he transitions into his “second life” post-retirement. 💼➡️🌅
- Chloe shared how she recovers from being offset, explaining how her obsessive love for the Japanese rock band Sekai no Owari—which even led her to meet her husband—remains her ultimate therapy. 🎧🎶
2. Prepared Speeches 🎤✨
Three masterful speakers took the stage, delivering deeply personal and highly engaging performances.
- Tomoko Imazu delivered a delightfully quirky speech titled “My wish for TAKUWAN”, sharing how her childhood school essay praising the destiny of pickled radishes won top marks but hilariously left her classroom smelling like pickles for months. 🥢😋 Her key takeaway was that shifting our focus from fixing weaknesses to amplifying our natural strengths is the ultimate superpower to unlock our potential.
- Noritoshi Ito (Noritama) touched our hearts with “The True Value of a Speech”, recounting how a fellow member’s speech inspired him to travel to Hokkaido and find the courage to express his love to his grieving sister during her 66th birthday dinner. 🗣️💖 He beautifully illustrated that the true metric of a great speech is neither trophies nor perfection, but the courage it inspires to change someone’s life.
- Ayesha Akter presented “Judging from outside”, using her fast-paced part-time job at a beef bowl restaurant to share four powerful life lessons about looking past outward appearances and jumping directly into problems. 🔍🏃♀️ She powerfully urged us to embrace speed over overthinking, reminding us that active experimentation always yields much better results than distant speculation.
