Our latest Otemachi Toastmasters meeting brought together members and three guests for another evening of learning, encouragement, and inspiration.i
🎉 A highlight of the evening was the induction ceremony for our newest member, Chloe, an HR professional. We are excited to welcome Chloe to our club and look forward to seeing her Toastmasters journey unfold.
☀️ Meeting Theme: “Enjoy the Crazily Hot Summer!”
Toastmaster of the Evening Noritama opened the meeting with the lively theme, “Enjoy the Crazily Hot Summer!” Despite the intense summer heat, members were encouraged to embrace the season with energy, positivity, and enthusiasm.
💡 Word of the Evening: “BEAT”
To complement the meeting theme, TM Joju selected BEAT as the Word of the Evening. Throughout the meeting, members challenged themselves to use the word naturally in their speeches and role reports, reminding us all to strive for our best in every role.
🎤 Table Topics – Summer Memories and Favorite Foods
Naoko led an engaging Table Topics session centered on summer memories and favorite foods. Members shared personal stories ranging from nostalgic childhood memories to family travel plans and their favorite ways to enjoy the summer season. The session reminded us that impromptu speaking is not only a valuable skill but also a wonderful opportunity to learn more about one another.
🗣️ Prepared Speeches
Three inspiring speeches were delivered during the prepared speech session.
- Hidenori presented “Being Right Isn’t Enough,” reminding us that effective communication is about building understanding and relationships, not simply proving a point.
- Paul delivered “The Best Compliment There Is,” exploring how meaningful compliments recognize people’s efforts and individuality rather than focusing only on appearances or achievements.
- Deni delivered her memorable Ice Breaker speech, “My Journey of Hope and Purpose.” She shared her courageous life journey, the hardships she overcame, and how becoming a mother inspired her commitment to leadership and humanitarian work. Her heartfelt story deeply moved the audience.
👏 Evaluation Session
Evaluators provided thoughtful and encouraging feedback for each speaker.
Highlights included:
- Praise for effective storytelling, vocal variety, and confident delivery.
- Suggestions to make greater use of pauses, gestures, and richer personal details.
- Recognition of Deni’s powerful pacing and emotional impact during her first Toastmasters speech.

📢 **Club Business Session **
President Joju shared the importance of taking on Toastmasters leadership roles as an opportunity to develop communication skills, strengthen leadership, and build meaningful connections beyond work and family life.
Members were also informed of the upcoming Toastmasters International membership dues increase. Those renewing their membership for the October 2026–March 2027 term are encouraged to complete their payment by July 29 to receive the current membership rate.
